About J. Glenn Bauer

J. Glenn Bauer is a British-based historical fiction author best known for the Sons of Iberia series, an epic multi-book saga set during the Second Punic War between Rome and Carthage, but told from the perspective of an Iberian warrior of the Bastetani tribe.

Born and raised in southern Africa, Glenn spent his childhood exploring the vast open landscapes of the veldt beneath the immense African sky. Long before becoming a novelist, he developed a fascination with frontier life, tribal cultures, survival, warfare, and the resilience of ordinary people living through extraordinary conflict, all themes that would later shape his writing.

After leaving school, he completed two years of military service as an operational medical orderly attached to an armoured counter-insurgency unit operating along the volatile Namibia–Angola border. Working alongside trackers, infantrymen, and rural communities affected by conflict and disease, he experienced first-hand the realities of fear, endurance, leadership, and survival under pressure.

Those experiences would later influence the grounded realism, emotional intensity, and battlefield authenticity found throughout his fiction.

Following military service, Glenn worked within the airline industry before building his own successful business ventures, including a bookshop, postal service, and eventually a same-day freight company. He later emigrated to the United Kingdom with his wife, where they settled in the South West of England and raised their son, who went on to serve in the Royal Air Force.

A lifelong admirer of epic historical storytelling, Glenn drew inspiration from authors such as Bernard Cornwell, James A. Michener, and Bryce Courtenay. His passion for ancient history ultimately led him to the Second Punic War and one of the most dramatic and consequential conflicts of the ancient world.

That fascination became Sons of Iberia: a large-scale historical fiction franchise exploring the war through the eyes of the tribes and warriors of ancient Iberia rather than Rome or Carthage. Combining cinematic battle sequences, political intrigue, tribal alliances, survival, and emotional realism, the series has drawn attention for its immersive worldbuilding and rarely explored setting.

The series begins with Warhorn, Sons of Iberia, Book 1, which reached the Amazon Top 10 in historical fiction categories and launched an expanding fictional universe spanning multiple novels, prequels, and interconnected character arcs.

Since 2013, Glenn has independently published multiple titles through his publishing imprint, retaining full intellectual property and adaptation rights across his works, including:

  • Film rights
  • Television rights
  • Streaming adaptation rights
  • Dramatic rights
  • Audio rights
  • Merchandising rights
  • Interactive and gaming rights

Today, Glenn continues to write from the South West of England while expanding the Sons of Iberia universe into a long-form historical saga designed for readers of cinematic historical fiction and epic television drama.

Alongside writing, Glenn operates a professional housesitting business serving clients across Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and the surrounding countryside.
